The full story

Bevvy is a new app, created for whisky lovers, and enables you to scan any bottle of whisky and unlock a world of information from the distillery history to tasting notes. We were tasked with laying the building blocks of their brand identity by developing and shooting their launch film, so naturally, it was important to get it right. 

As the film begins - with whisky, there’s a story. There’s a history and a tradition around whisky drinking, so rather than make a really functional film, we tried instead to evoke the rich experience of being a whisky lover. The tradition of whisky is, on the surface, at odds with the modernity of a tech brand, but through centering the film on the luxury of whisky itself, we brought the two together in perfect symbiosis. Through developing the script to more aptly reflect the experiential aspects of Bevvy’s target audience, we didn’t just explain the app; we began to craft a narrative and community for Bevvy, so that the launch was resonant as well as informative. 

To get the stunning close-ups in slow motion, we enlisted Paul Lilley as DOP on this one, combining flowing rivers of whisky with luscious natural scenes in A burnt, golden colour palette, basing all of our artistic decisions around creating the most vivid, immersive atmosphere possible. We were trying to encapsulate the experience of whisky, drawing in whisky lovers that way - rather than being a simple film about using the app, this is a film to inspire and begin to build Bevvy’s community.
